Infrastructure

Production infrastructure

Pécs, as regional centre, now boasts all elements of modern production infrastructure.

Road network

As part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor V/C, the M6 motorway links Baranya County directly to Hungary’s national motorway network and the Trans-European Transport Network. Together with the M60 motorway, it provides fast access between Budapest, Pécs and southern Hungary, while the southern connection towards Croatia strengthens the Budapest–Pécs–Osijek axis and improves access to the Balkans and the Adriatic region.

The planned western extension of the M60 towards Szigetvár, Barcs and the Croatian border, the new Mohács Danube Bridge, the Port of Mohács and Pécs-Pogány Airport further enhance the region’s multimodal connectivity. These assets support Baranya County’s role as an emerging logistics, industrial and cross-border economic hub in southern Hungary.

The Port of Mohács is expected to play an increasingly important role in the logistics development of southern Hungary. The ongoing construction of the new Mohács Danube Bridge and the related road network development will significantly improve regional transport infrastructure and strengthen connections between the two sides of the Danube. Together with the port, the industrial park and the area’s proximity to Croatia, Serbia and the Balkans, Mohács enhances Pécs and Baranya’s access to international river, road and cross-border logistics routes.

Energy supply

Baranya County is served by stable and diversified energy infrastructure, with access to Hungary’s national electricity transmission grid, including the 400 kV high-voltage system, as well as cross-border electricity interconnections with Croatia. The region is also connected to the national gas network, providing reliable energy supply for industrial, commercial and residential users. Renewable energy is increasingly important in the county: solar and geothermal solutions are used by several businesses and municipalities, including Bóly and Szentlőrinc, while Pécs is known for its biomass-based district heating system and its role in hydrogen and fuel-cell-related innovation.
