The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pécs-Baranya invited Mr. István Kontra to join its Business Development Ambassador Programme based on his extensive international business experience and professional network in Ireland. Through this initiative, the Chamber works together with internationally experienced professionals to support local companies in entering foreign markets, building business partnerships and identifying new investment and cooperation opportunities in the target country.

Mr. Kontra has nearly twenty years of international management and business development experience gained in Canada, England and primarily in Ireland, where he lived and worked for a decade. During his years abroad, he developed significant professional networks and acquired broad expertise in hospitality, technology and international business operations.

He began his professional career in Ireland in the hospitality sector, managing several four-star hotels and leading teams of more than 100 employees. Later, he expanded his activities into the technology sector, becoming co-owner of an Irish web development and hosting company, while also participating in the operation of a health and safety software development enterprise.

Alongside his business activities, István Kontra has continuously been involved in professional and business communities. He was a member of the Irish-Hungarian Business Association and the Celbridge Business Association in Ireland and maintains close professional relations with the Hungarian Embassy in Dublin and its economic representatives.

Since returning to Hungary, he has remained active in strengthening Irish-Hungarian business relations through the Irish-Hungarian Business Circle, supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Budapest and Enterprise Ireland. He currently serves as a Board Member of the organisation and is the founder and Chairperson of the IHBC Charity Foundation.

As Business Development Ambassador – Ireland, István Kontra supports the Chamber’s international activities by helping local businesses establish market connections, develop partnerships and strengthen economic cooperation between Ireland and the Pécs-Baranya region.
